It\u2019s unlikely he has an idea of the origins of the word, which started to appear around the 1930s. Whilst the exact origins are unknown, it\u2019s thought it may come from the phrase \u201cup-a-daisy\u201d, which has been used since the 18th Century.<\/p>\n<p>And oops isn\u2019t just confined to the English language:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>An Italian found in error might say, \u201cops!\u201d while a Frenchman who\u2019s made a faux pas might say, \u201coups!\u201d In Spanish, one can say opa, but just as common are huy and \u00a1ay!
