Now, you can get involved yourself in a new type of dictionary making \u2013 in online video form.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wordia.com\">Wordia.com <\/a>is &#8220;the world&#8217;s first democratically compiled, multimedia online dictionary&#8221; and is made up of videos uploaded by everyone from your average Joe on the street to the illustrator <a href=\"http:\/\/wordia.com\/illustration\">Quentin Blake<\/a>. The danger is obvious \u2013 how do you know the definition offered is true and accurate? Although won\u2019t help you too much if you want to know the proper definition of the word <strong>invention<\/strong>, it is amusingly overwrought. <\/p>\n<p>Currently the site is asking for videos on words related to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.refugeeweek.org.uk\/\">Refugee Week 2009<\/a>, which runs from 15 -21 June. Entries include musings from The Archbishop of Canterbury on <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/wordia.com\/Users\/archbishopofcantebury\">refuge <\/a><\/strong>and Baaba Maal (<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/wordia.com\/Users\/baabamaal\">community<\/a><\/strong>). <a href=\"http:\/\/wordia.com\/Themes\/3-Refugee-Week-2009\">Upload<\/a> your own video giving a definition of one of the selected words for the week, and you could win a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.refugeeweek.org.uk\/simple-acts\/\">Simple Acts<\/a> journal. <\/p>\n<p>Whilst it\u2019s just getting off the ground at the moment, wordia.com could really develop into an interesting tool for language learning, especially if it goes global and definitions from different languages are added.
