If you happen to be in New Zealand this week (or even just know some Kiwis), why not take part in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.koreromaori.co.nz\/news\/mlw\">M\u0101ori Language Week<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Running from the 27th July \u2013 2nd August, this years theme is &#8220;Te Reo i te Hapori &#8211; M\u0101ori Language in the Community.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tetaurawhiri.govt.nz\/english\/index.shtml\">Te reo M\u0101ori<\/a> is one of two <a href=\"http:\/\/nzcurriculum.tki.org.nz\/The-New-Zealand-Curriculum\/Official-languages\">official languages <\/a>of New Zealand, along New Zealand Sign Language (English is a de facto official language). The language of New Zealand\u2019s indigenous population, it\u2019s experiencing something of a resurgence, with M\u0101ori language schools and it being taught at primary school. The national newspaper, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/nz\/news\/article.cfm?c_id=1&#038;objectid=10587287 \">New Zealand Herald <\/a>is getting involved, with some classic Kiwi phrases translated into M\u0101ori. If you\u2019re already a fluent speaker, here\u2019s an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/nz\/news\/article.cfm?c_id=1&#038;objectid=10586798 \">editorial <\/a>celebrating the week in Te Reo (there\u2019s an English translation too!). <\/p>\n<p>I took a few classes in Te Reo when I lived in New Zealand, and it was a great way to connect with M\u0101ori culture.
