{"id":88,"date":"2009-05-07T15:37:20","date_gmt":"2009-05-07T15:37:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.language-museum.com\/blog\/?p=88"},"modified":"2009-05-21T15:40:13","modified_gmt":"2009-05-21T15:40:13","slug":"football-helps-language","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.language-museum.com\/blog\/2009\/05\/07\/football-helps-language\/","title":{"rendered":"Football helps language?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It may seem an odd connection, but in England football is being used to help children learn new languages. <\/p>\n<p>Watching professional football (or &#8216;soccer&#8217; as it&#8217;s also known), it would seem you&#8217;re more likely to pick up bad language in its various forms than anything you&#8217;re able to use in conversation.<\/p>\n<p>But Arsenal football club has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/education\/mortarboard\/2009\/apr\/02\/language-lessons-arsenal\" target=\"_BLANK\">become involved<\/a> in the British Education Minister&#8217;s drive to get all primary school kids learning a foreign language by 2011. With the team consisting of players from <em>x<\/em> different countries, and a French manager, it seems a great spot to get kids sneakily learning whilst distracting them with something they&#8217;re possibly more interested in.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure how much you&#8217;d use &#8220;goal&#8221;\/<em>&#8220;tor&#8221;<\/em>\/<em>&#8220;o golo&#8221;<\/em> in every day life, but it&#8217;s definitely a start!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It may seem an odd connection, but in England football is being used to help children learn new languages.
